World number 3 rated surfer Taj Burrow, lead the Yallingup Boardriders Club to a massive win in the WA Jim Beam Surftag
Yallingup Boardriders and Margaret River Boardriders are WA's top clubs and set to represent WA at the Jim Beam Surftag in Sydney!
Yallingup Boardriders have pulled off a hat trick of wins by taking out this years WA Jim Beam Surftag, today's win will now see them head again over east to try and improve on last years 4th place overall in what is the biggest and most prestigious national boardriding club final in the world.
The Jim Beam Surftag National Final will take place on March 13 and 14th and with over $100 000 up for grabs, Yallingup have a weekend to look forward to, particularly with professional surfers like Taj Burrow, Jake and Paul Patterson and Jay Davies all expected to surf for their beloved club in what will be the greatest showdown in club surfing in the history of Australian surfing.
With the lack of swell hitting Yallingup main break the competition today was moved to Honeycomb's which was ideal for the days competition with lefts and rights pounding through.
From the get go Yallingup had the upper hand with local big hitter Taj Barrow being a late inclusion into the team, taking out the first heat and moving straight into the finals, leaving Margaret River A & B teams, Trigg Beach and Contacio Boardriders fighting it out for a place in the finals.
The Final was all Yallingup with every surfer boasting high scores and impressive sprints to the tag area. With the Margaret River A team crumbling due to poor wave choice it was left up to the B team to give any hope of beating Yallingup.
Damiean Warr, Dan Waddell, Wyatt Davies, Chad Simpson and Taj Barrow did the Yallingup Boardriders Club proud posting a 74.3 points to take it out, leaving 2nd place ( Margaret River B team ) 10 points behind, 3rd Margaret River A team and 4th Trigg Boardriders with only 0.2 points separating 3rd and 4th.
The Big Jim Powerwave award was won by Taj Burrow who posted an 8.5 in the final which gave Yallingup a massive lead early in the one hour final. Each surfers powerwave is worth double points with Burrow's wave in the final pulling 17 points.
In the F.C.S Manufactures Cup it was the team of Murriginals ( Dave Mac & Max Manners Surfboards ) who took out this years cup, David Del-Roy Carr being the big stand out helping them win very convincingly!
