New Jim Beam Surftag Event Added to Australia's Largest and Richest Tag Team Surfing Series
Due to massive numbers and the huge success at last seasons’ NSW Jim Beam Surftag Series, NSW will now be split into two regions, NSW North and NSW South.
The new event - NSW North, will involve Boardriding Clubs from the Central Coast, Newcastle and the Mid North Coast and scheduled to be held in January at Newcastle.
The NSW North qualifier will be fought out by 2005 Jim Beam Surftag National Champions Umina, Macmasters, Avoca, Nth Shelley, Wamberall, Norah Head, Catherine Hill Bay, Merewether, Boomerang and Saltwater as well as attracting new clubs Port MacQuarie, Blacksmiths and Tea Tree.
Umina Boardriding Club Stalwart Drew Courtney, currently in Europe competing on ASP World Tour events is looking forward to the new seasons Jim Beam Surftag saying “We all love getting back to our local Boardriders club to team up and put back into the club – it’s where all Australian competitive surfers begin their careers and it always feels good to give back to the club in these team events that are full of passion, I can’t wait!”
The top four teams will qualify for the 2010 Jim Beam Surftag National Final at North Narrabeen in February.
The series will now be made up by eight events:
1) Jim Beam Surftag Industry Challenge
2) Jim Beam Women's Surftag
3) VIC Qualifier
4) QLD Qualifier
5) WA Qualifier
6) NSW North Qualifier
7) NSW South Qualifier and
8) National Final
The 2010 Jim Beam Surftag National Final will be the biggest Final of the Jim Beam Surftag's nine year history with Australia's top 24 Boardriding Clubs (increased from 16) competing for over $100,000 in cash and prizes that includes $13,000 for the overall winning club.
“Jim Beam is proud to support the Surftag National Series for a 9th consecutive year. As the grassroots initiative continues to build momentum and Jim Beam supports an increasing number of Australian boardriders clubs, the NSW Surftag competition has developed into two separate North and South events. Jim Beam continues to encourage up and coming talent through our commitment to the further development of the series,” said Lisa Spencer, Assistant Brand Manager – Jim Beam, Beam Global Australia.
The first event of the series will be the 2009 Jim Beam Surftag Industry Challenge to be held at Curl Curl Beach, Sydney on Friday 23rd October.
Quiksilver, lead by Tom Carroll and Matt Hoy won the event last year ahead of Ocean & Earth, RVCA and Aloha Surf.
Twenty surf brands will line up against each other to see which Head Office has the best surfers.
"With the introduction of the NSW North event the series continues to grow and attract new teams. The big thing this season will be the increased teams at the National Final which will result in the biggest and best line-up of Australian surfers this summer" Steve Harrison, Global Surftag.
The Jim Beam Surftag Series is Australia’s richest and most prestigious Boardriding Club Series and the coming season will be bigger and better than ever!
