THE MURRIGINALS SET TO DEFEND FCS TITLE

07.01.2010

The second qualifying event of the FCS Manufacturers Cup series is set to go off tomorrow at Yallingup in Western Australia. Defending champions 'The Murriginals' (Dave McCauley & Matt Manners Surfboards) have confirmed they are ready to compete and defend their title.

“We’re really looking forward to tomorrow. We’ve got a good team of guys and we’ll certainly be looking to defend our title. Can’t wait, bring it on!” said an excited Dave McCauley from the Murriginals.

It won’t be easy for the high spirited team as they face some tough competition from the likes of Katana & Nathan Rose Surfboards.

“The Murriginals were in great form last year so I’m sure they’ll be keen prove it was no fluke. Last year their team had a great mix of experience and youthful energy to draw from. It’ll be interesting to see what the rival teams have to offer.” - Richie Lovett, FCS Brand Ambassador

Unlike other conventional surfing competitions, the FCS Manufacturers Cup uses a tag team format. Each company submits a team consisting of four surfers, two staff members and two team riders of their choice. Heat duration is 45 minutes and each surfer in the team must catch three waves then return to the beach and tag the next surfer. Bonus points are awarded to the final surfer if they return to the tag area before the time runs out.

The FCS Manufactures Cup runs in conjunction with the Jim Bean Surftag Series and provides a national competition for surfboard manufacturers to compete against each other. The competition ultimately determines who is Australia’s No.1 board maker. The top three teams from the QLD & NSW state qualifying events, and the winning teams from the VIC & WA state qualifying events, will progress through to the National final which will be held at North Narrabeen, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

The FCS Manufacturers Cup gives Aussie board makers the opportunity to win over $3000 in cash and prizes, claim bragging rights and ultimately be crowned the champions of the surfing industry. Don’t miss it!

Saturday’s surfing will get underway from 9am.

The next state qualifying event in the series will be held in Queensland at Duranbah on January 15 2010.

The 2010 FCS Manufacturers Cup is proudly supported by Jim Beam, Tracks and Swellnet.
