BIG NAMES PREPARE FOR BATTLE

14.01.2010

The third state qualifying event of the FCS Manufacturers Cup series is set to run this Friday at Duranbah, on Queensland’s Gold Coast. With an all star cast and fun waves predicted, it’s going to be a day not to miss.

A number of Queensland’s premier surfboard manufacturers have confirmed they will be competing including; DHD Surfboards, JS Industries, Super Surfboards, Shaping Co, Stuart Surfboards, JR Surfboards, Pro Workshop, Glass Lab, Venom Surfboards and Emery Surfboards.

“There’s no shortage of talented surfers working in the surfboard industry in Queensland, so the standard of surfing is always very high. Not to mention some of the worlds best surfers have confirmed they will be representing their surfboard sponsors. Traditionally the Queensland qualifying event has produced some tough competition, this time around should be no different” – Richie Lovett, FCS Brand Ambassador

As the event is based on a tag team format, each company must submit a team consisting of four surfers; two employees and two team riders. Each surfer in the team must catch three waves then return to the beach to tag the next surfer. This ‘race against time’ format adds to the excitement of the event which steadily builds as the clock ticks down to the final minute.

The format will no doubt test the nerves of some surfers, among them current ASP World Champions, Mick Fanning and Steph Gilmore who have confirmed they will be surfing for DHD, while Dion Agius and Clay Marzo will take to the water to represent Super Surfboards.

The final state qualifying event in the series will be held in Sydney at Cronulla on Saturday, 30th January 2010. Teams looking to compete in the event include Stacey Surfboards, Dylan Surfboards, Insight Surfboards, Warners Surfboards, RM Shapes and Hayden Shapes.

The 2010 FCS Manufacturers Cup is proudly supported by Jim Beam, Tracks and Swellnet.
