LONG REEF'S STEVE CLEMENTS
TO DEFEND
JIM BEAM NATIONAL BOARDRIDERS CUP TITLE
Newly-elected Long Reef Boardriders President
Steve Clements will defend his Jim Beam National Boardriders
Cup title after taking out the Long Reef Boardriding Club
Championship.
The 2008 Jim Beam Boardriders Cup National Final will be held
in March and Clements will be joined by 55 other Club Champions
from NSW, QLD, WA, SA, VIC and TAS, all of whom have already
won $500 from Jim Beam.
Last year Clements defeated Lennox/Ballina's Marcus Aboody
to take out the title but he will have strong competition
from all over Australia.
"It was great to win it last year," Clements said. "The standard
of surfers in the Jim Beam Boardriders is amazing with most
the guys either having surfed the WQS tour or still surfing
it so it was a very difficult contest to win.
"I'm just stoked that I have been able to win the Longy (Long
Reef) contest so I get the chance to defend the title. It
is going to be tough because as I said the standard is so
high. It is right up there with some of the tour events with
guys from all over Australia."
The 56 National Finalists will be fighting for a first prize
of $2000 and a vmoto scooter valued at $3000.
As well as competition from all over Australia, Clements will
have to get over the top of a very strong Northern Beaches
contingent including eleven-time North Narrabeen Champion
Brett Bannister.
The Northern Beaches Boardriding Champions to compete in the
2008 Jim Beam Boardriders Cup National Final are:
Heath Irving (North Steyne)
Ben Hamilton (Queenscliff)
Justin McMahon (Freshwater)
Matt Bemrose (Curl Curl)
Dean White (Dee Why)
Steve Clements (Long Reef)
Brett Bannister (North Narrabeen)
Chad Schomberg (Newport)
Matt Owens (Avalon)
The 2008 Jim Beam Surftag National Series is proudly supported
by Jim Beam, Oneill, Oporto, Vmoto, Mizone, Tracks and Coastalwatch.
