Sydney's North Narrabeen Boardriders have continued their dominance by winning the 2007 O'Neill Gromtag. The junior North Narrabeen team came from behind in the final to finish 0.6 ahead of Curl Curl with Avalon finishing third and Dee Why fourth.
With only 4.8 points separating 1st and 4th all teams had their chances with North Narrabeen's fifth surfer Max Tagg proving the difference scoring 12.2 and sprinting up the beach to finish one metre ahead of Avalon's Harry Vann to secure 4 bonus points for being the 1st team back to the tag area. Avalon received 3 points with the extra point North Narrabeen received handing them victory.
It was a full team effort for NN with all five surfers scoring well, in team order Sam Maddox scored 8 points, Dave Vlug 15.4, Davey Cathels 14.1, Cooper Chapman 14.3 and Max Tagg 12.2. Dee Why surfer Isaac Buckley was the stand out surfer of the event scoring a massive 30 points out of a possible 40. Mid way thru the one hour final Dee Why and Curl Curl held down 1st and 2nd with Curl Curl's Leigh McMahon scoring 23.5 but when NN's Chapman and Tagg out scored their rivals the NN club had come from behind to prove they are Australia's No. 1 Boardriding Club adding the 2007 O'Neill Gromtag victory to their 2007 Jim Beam Surftag National Series win.
NN's Davey Cathels had flown back to Sydney from the Australian Junior Titles to compete for his club, "We where stoked to make the final and it was a pretty good feeling when we found out we had won as we thought Dee Why had won it. It's great to win individual events but winning a team event is more rewarding, every won involved was really happy."
North Narrabeen received $1000 with Curl Curl winning $600, Avalon $500 and Dee Why $400.
