Squiers Pumped For Sailor Jerry Surftag

21stMarch 2018

Boardriding Clubs from Bondi to Ulladulla will be heading to North Cronulla Beach this weekend for the fourth qualifying round of the Sailor Jerry Surftag Australian Series. Scarborough Boardriders will be looking to improve on their fourth place finish in last year's regional qualifier, which was won by local club Elouera.

The Scarborough team that includes Shaun Warren, Hayden Blair, Dan Salaby and Jacob Clarke will be strengthened by the return of Nic Squiers who has had a busy start to the year chasing WSL ratings points.

The explosive natural footer has been one of the form surfers so far this year on the World Tour taking out the Burleigh Pro in January and currently sits in 41st position on the WQS ratings. "2018 so far has been a great year for me with a win at Burleigh as well as a few Quarter Final finishes in the QS1000's", Squiers said. "I've felt very focused and on point so far and everything is in balance. I'm pumped for this weekends Sailor Jerry Surftag and the forecast looks great, it's always fun jumping into the club events as it adds another dynamic to competing. It's all about the whole team doing their part and putting together consistent surfing, I love the different approach you have to take for this event and I'm fired up and ready to go".

Ten Men's teams will be vying for a top six finish at North Cronulla to guarantee qualification to the Sailor Jerry Surftag Australian Championships being held at Duranbah Beach, Tweed Heads in late April. Scarborough will need to overcome some tough competition to finish on top with Elouera's team including Jared Hickel. The stylish goofy footer has been rubbing shoulders with the best surfers in the world the last few weeks after receiving an invitation to compete in the Trials of the opening World Championship Tour event on the Gold Coast.

Scarborough and Elouera will be up against Bondi, Bronte, Maroubra, Cronulla, Garie, Woonona, Werri Beach and Ulladulla.

In the Women's Division the Cronulla Christian Surfers will be looking to defend their regional title won last year courtesy of some huge scores from Paris Whittaker. The Christian Surfers team will face Bondi Girls, Cronulla Girls and Scarborough with the top two teams qualifying to the Australian Championships.

Competition starts at 9am on Saturday at North Cronulla Beach with the Men's Finals and the Women's Division being held on Sunday. For live scores during the event go to globalsurftag.com
